The Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture System, developed in Denver, is featured in the June O, The Oprah Magazine, page 164. The announcement is made by Martha Lucas, Ph.D, L.Ac., Denver-based acupuncture practitioner and author who co-developed the Mei Zen system and teaches it internationally to acupuncture practitioners, physicians and chiropractors.

The photo in O was taken at the practice of my student in New York, Melinda Mingus, M.D.," Dr. Lucas explains. "Currently available on newsstands, the article describes Mei Zen as an acupuncture technique that 'increases blood flow and the production of collagen and elastin' in the skin." Dr. Mingus, a certified Mei Zen practitioner told O that the treatments "may result in firmer skin, a reduction of wrinkles, and a tightening of the jowls." Mei Zen means ìbeautiful person" in Chinese. We call it Mei Zen because the procedure is a pure Chinese Medicine technique that treats the patientís overall energy as well as the face, neck, or abdomen,"Lucas says. Mei Zen treats both the internal causes of aging and the skinís own aging process.

About Martha Lucas, Ph.D., L.Ac.
In addition to co-developing the Mei Zen system, Dr. Lucas is the author of the books Vanity Calamity: : Your Guide to Cosmetic Acupuncture for Anti-aging, Pulse Diagnosis: Beyond slippery and wiry, and the meditation CD, QiGong Meditations for Life: Basic Maintenance, that can be used to improve general health. Vanity Calamity and QiGong Meditations are available at her office in Denver or through her website http://www.AcupunctureWoman.com. Pulse Diagnosis is available through the website http://www.LhasaOMS.com.

Though Dr. Lucas specializes in Cosmetic Acupuncture, her practice also includes Acupuncture for internal medicine issues, Chinese herbal prescriptions, QiGong for self-care, and nutritional advice for those who want to maintain a healthy weight. She treats couples who are experiencing challenges with fertility, digestive issues (IBS for example), depression and other emotional conditions, weight loss, chronic pain, and sports injuries to name a few. Additionally, she offers a variety of training and seminars including Corporate QiGong, Cosmetic Acupuncture, and Advanced Pulse Diagnosis.

Calling her practice one of traditional medicine rather than alternative medicine, Dr. Lucas says the therapies she uses have a tradition of more than 3000 years. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a system of medicine whose philosophy is neither contrary nor exclusive to modern western medicine or vice versa. They are complementary, supplementary, and in some cases, alternative or redundant systems of medicine. Like modern, western medicine, TCM is a form of scientific, evidence-based, triage style medicine. It counters the effects of the illness by treating acute symptoms first and then isolating and treating the underlying imbalance or root cause of the disease. In the pursuit of optimal health and medical care, some practitioners and hospitals have recognized that diverse approaches can be used simultaneously to treat certain conditions while other conditions must be treated with more narrowly focused procedures, like surgery, where modern medicine excels.

Dr. Lucas received her Ph.D. in Research Psychology from the University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, and her degree in TCM from the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver. Besides her direct training in TCM school, she has advanced training in QiGong and pulse-taking diagnostics. She is an internationally known instructor of Cosmetic Acupuncture and Advanced Pulse Diagnosis. Her practice is located at The Colorado Center of Traditional Medicine, in the Capitol Hill area, near downtown Denver.

Vanity CalamityVanity Calamity: Your Guide to Cosmetic Acupuncture for Anti-aging

Vanity Calamity tells the history of vanity and what women have been willing to do to look younger or more beautiful. Now there's a healthy, safe option - Cosmetic Acupuncture. This book shares how to look young naturally, including foods that nourish the skin.
Cosmetic Acupuncture is a holistic alternative to plastic surgery, injections, and laser/chemical peels. It is one procedure for your face rather than 3, 4, or 5 different (and expensive) procedures. Your face will never look stretched, burned, puffy, or "banded". This series of treatments increases blood circulation to the face promoting collagen production for increased muscle tone and elasticity (this is what keeps wrinkles from forming!) It's prevention at its best!
