Earning the certification: Licensed veterinarians must attend four required five-day sessions on basic veterinary acupuncture, pass written and practical examinations, submit a peer-reviewed written case report and complete a 40-hour internship.

Coursework covers traditional Chinese medicine theory, current scientific acupuncture theory and biomedical science. Various methods of patient examination and treatment are taught. Topics include causes of disease, acupuncture points and meridians, electro-acupuncture, demonstration of equipment, diagnostic approaches and treatment regimens.
