Be Happy With Aromatherapy
Author: Emma Watson

Winter is drawing in and the weather is getting colder; with the changes in season and weather, there is also a change in my mood. It happens every year, I just don´t want to say goodbye to the sunshine and my mood blackens along with the clouds in the sky.

I tell myself that winter will soon be over and spring is just around the corner, just be patient, but it doesn´t help. I am feeling down and need to lift my mood in preparation for the long and dreary winter months. What can I do to lift my spirits? At times like these I turn to my aromatherapy oils.

Aromatherapy is not a magical cure for all that ails me, but by choosing the right essential oils I can create some wonderfully scented oils, which remind me of spring / summer and start the healing process.

On the dark winter mornings I need something stimulating to wake up with. Essential oil soap is ideal for this. I have an excellent citrus aromatherapy soap I use for this very reason. Made using grapefruit and lemon essential oils, the soap is the perfect wake up call. The fruity scents are invigorating, stimulating and bring about visions of tropical fruit trees in the sun.

On the way to work I turn to Eucalyptus essential oil. A few drops on my handkerchief and I can smell the refreshing and stimulating vapours at any time during the long train journey to work.

This is usually enough to see me through the day at work, but sometimes the pressures of work mount and I return home stressed and short tempered. I need to relax so I turn to my trusted aromatherapy kit once again.

A relaxing bath is what I need, so I run a bath and add about four drops of lavender essential oil to relax me. I also add a couple of drops of rose essential oil as I love the sweet scent of roses, which remind me of an English garden in the springtime. If I am ready for bed I may exchange the rose essential oil for chamomile oil to help me sleep.

These are a few of my favourite ways of using aromatherapy within my daily life, to help lift my spirits. Try using a few of these techniques to lift your mood. You can experiment with your favourite essential oils to find your preferred blends and techniques.
